Independence Day 2021: An Energy Independent India
It is time for India to become self-sufficient on the energy front, even though it is, and will remain, a large shipper of petroleum and coal. A united approach to diversification by using other forms of energy, and energy management solutions can help India reach this goal.
India carries one-sixth of the world’s population on less than 2% of the global landmass. This means that the country will not be able to satisfy all its demands for natural reserves and energy from within its edges. India has been a major importer of petroleum for many decades and is now a major importer of coal as well. The dependence on imports for energy will only rise as India’s economy expands.
Energy independence is the strength to access the required amount of energy at a fair, transparent price. India can secure its energy independence through a mix of diversification and asset acquisition.
The Need for Energy Independence
Despite which country you live in, look around and what do you see? You apparently see cars and trucks on the road. What drives all these vehicles? The gas and diesel practised are obtained from petroleum. When a country can deliver enough fuel to meet its own requirements, it is referred to as being energy independent.
When we talk about energy independence, we’re bringing new levels of energy independence directly to us & it is also environmentally sustainable. We are addressing the same concerns about not relying on foreign countries for energy but on a personal scale, and with every home and every business that becomes energy independent, we take a small step closer to complete energy independence.
Of course, it also gives many direct privileges to our home and business. Personal energy independence reduces our home or business dependence on outside sources for power, providing complete reliability and immunity.
Energy independence also provides budget stability. Energy prices often fluctuate based on demand and supply. These fluctuating prices make it hard to predict and control your budget and while it can be a little more manageable at the residential level. But large industrial clients can see bills jump by thousands of dollars, digging into their gains. Energy independence reduces your energy bills & these payments are not only predictable but in most cases are far less than what you were previously paying for energy each month.
Another major advantage is the peace of mind that comes with knowing we are independently producing our own energy. Having fewer things to worry about and dread over can improve our physical & mental health. Add to that the feeling that you’re doing something productive to help the environment.
All these benefits can be achieved by decreasing our energy usage through a myriad of energy efficiency solutions. But to experience the full impact of becoming completely energy independent it’s necessary to reduce consumption through energy management solutions.
India & Energy Independence
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 2021, set a purpose of becoming 'energy independent' by 2047 through a mix of electric mobility, gas-based economy, doping ethanol in petrol, making the country a hub for hydrogen production & energy management solutions.
Delivering his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he said India spends over Rs 12 lakh crore on energy imports every year. For India to progress & for Atmanirbhar Bharat, energy independence is the call of the hour. India has to take a pledge that it will be energy independent by the year we celebrate the 100th year of Independence.
The best way to achieve an independent future is to save energy & adapt energy efficiency solutions. As the citizens of India, we have to once again work together for our energy independence and be an independent nation in the true sense.
